The Southfields Cup
The annual Grove Internal-Club tournament is open to all members and has been running since 1933. We have both an Adult and a Junior tournament.
How to Enter
There is a small entrance charge of £1.50 for each event entered.
We have both open events and handicapped events, using our own points handicap system, which is worked out by the Committee to make the event as even as possible. The handicap points system used by the club can mean someone receiving points, whilst their opponent being minus points (owing). This is explained at the bottom of this page.
Each round is given a date, when the matches should be played by, and the onus is on the person drawn first, to arrange the fixtures.
When arranging matches you should take into account the playing arrangements page. In particular you should AVOID arranging any Tournament matches when adult social is taking place and only one match should be scheduled during the Wednesday night match practice which starts at 6pm.
When a match has been arranged, you should put the date and time on the tournament sheet in the Clubhouse.

A player receives .4 (receives means the player is +15) in games 1, 2, 4 and 6, and does not receive any points in games 3 and 5. If the set continues past game 6, then the player would receive points in games 7, 8, 10 and 12.
At the end of the set, the players start the handicapping as per game 1.
|Owing||1st, 7th, 13th Games||2nd, 8th, 14th Games||3rd, 9th, 15th Games||4th, 10th, 16th Games||5th, 11th, 17th Games||6th, 12th, 18th Games|
- A player owing .1 (meaning MINUS points) is LOVE in games 1, 2,3,4 and then -15 in game 5 and LOVE in game 6.
If a player A is given "Receives .2" and is drawn against player B who is given a rating of "Owe .4" the first 6 games would be as follows
|Player A (R.2)||0||+15||0||+15||0||0|
|Player B (0.4)||-15||0||-15||0||-15||-15|
A player could be awarded "Receives 15.2". This means they receive 15 points in every game, with the .2 meaning in games 2 and 4, they receive 30.
A player is awarded "Owing 15.1". This means they are -15 in every game, except game 5, where they are -30
