Grove is a small thriving tennis club, with four all weather courts, three of them floodlit till 10pm. We have a brick built Clubhouse that includes a licensed bar. We are located in the Millhouses area, in the South West of Sheffield, and have been here since 1900, though we have members from all over the city.
We offer a range of membership options, that our members believe offers exceptional value for money. Tennis is a great way to keep active, fit and healthy and Grove tennis club is a great place to play tennis. For 2017 we are offering a special introductory membership offer for adults, which is available for just a £100.
The tennis club is served by a dedicated Committee, elected each year at the February AGM. We also have many members who volunteer to help the club in a variety of ways, and we always welcome new volunteers.
Services to the Club
Grove LTC has many members who freely give their time to support and help the club to continue to flourish. In recognition of the these efforts (by all members), at the annual Grove dinner, the Club President presents the 'Services to the Club' trophy to one member, in recognition of their efforts for the year.
We offer tennis coaching through our Head coach, Alex Smith. The coaches used by Grove are required to comply with the requirement to have the appropriate LTA coaching qualifications, have appropriate insurance, be covered by Criminal Records Bureaus (CRB) checks / child protection legislation.
We have many Junior Members who enjoy being part of a small friendly club. Our Junior membership is very good value, starting from £15 per year. Our Coach Alex, offers group coaching sessions for Juniors on Saturday mornings and runs evening group coaching sessions during term time. Alex runs Tennis Camps in the Easter, Spring Bank and summer school holidays. Since 2014 we have been running the annual Decathlon Juniors Team Tournament and there are opportunities to play more competitive tennis. This includes playing matches against other Grove Juniors and against Juniors from other clubs, if you are selected for our Junior team (aged 15 years and under).
We have many current members who play for our adult teams, who have been a member of Grove from a young age. Alex is waiting to hear from you!
We have a thriving social tennis scene that is the heartbeat of the club. We have an inclusive approach to ensure every member at social tennis is treated equally which means that new members quickly integrate into the club. A warm welcome is always given to new players of all ability levels by our group of regular social players.
We have a number of teams that play in the Sheffield and District Leagues and every year we are always looking to welcome new match players to the club. We have a good group of friendly Captains, who will make new match players feel welcome.
Internal Club Tournament
We have our own annual Internal Club Tournament which started in 1933, that is very popular with our membership. This provides a great opportunity for social members to join in with match players in a competitive environment. Winners' trophies are presented at our Annual Dinner and Dance evening which takes place every October.
Our Social Secretary, John Adamson arranges family fun events throughout the year and they are always a great opportunity for members to get to know each other outside of tennis.
Every Monday from 6-30pm to 7-30pm, there is Cardio tennis for ladies. This is a sociable group class with aerobic fitness, a fun workout, drills, hitting lots of tennis balls, and all set to music. This costs just £5 per session.
Our fantastic floodlights allow members to play tennis until 10 pm all through the year. This allows for our social tennis to take place throughout the year on Tuesday and Friday evenings, many members are not put off by rain or snow. Every year in October / November we host the popular Floodlit tournament that is enjoyed by many clubs, and Grove has two teams, one in each Division.
Full time and midweek members are allowed to bring playing guests to Grove, a small charge applies (£2 per adult, £1 Junior) and this must be paid prior to commencement of play.
If you are on Facebook, we have a popular Grove Facebook Group that you can request to join, and we have embraced the digital age, by providing information through our website, Facebook (we have a Grove Group and an open page for everyone) and our Twitter feed.
Rules of LTA / YLTA
Grove LTC asks all members and visitors using the facilities to comply with the rules of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the Yorkshire Lawn Tennis Association (YLTA) and these are displayed in the Club house.
